Default SP 16 vs R16 wads

Using Waa16/claybuster clone in Cheddite 2 1/2" hulls with 19.9 gr Universal, 7/8 oz load, which lists at 1165 fps and 7100 psi. I have several bags of the old R-16 wads and wonder what subbbing the R16 would due to the load .
Trying to clear up the reloading clutter, and use up wads & hulls I generally dont use. Must have 500+ black RGL's, couple hundred Federals/Estates. Mostly loading just 2 1/2" shells for 16's now.

I’ve got a veritable BOATLOAD of SP-16 wads that I picked up last week . I already had a few bags from previous purchases but never really cared for them . But I tried them Tuesday as the loader that came with them was set for and they looked nice . As to using them in place of either of the CB AA16 wads I’d say no . As to the R-16 I was told there were some of them in the pile of stuff I bought but I found none . I’ve not had the chance to ever try any R-16’s . But between the CB AA16 , CB AA16 7/8 and SP-16 I’ve got about 20,000 16 gauge wads I just might have enough for the rest of my existence .

I bought some of the Italian wads for the 16 to use in 2 1/2” Eley hulls but I’ve yet to use them .

Those are pretty comparable wads and at the pressure you're running I think you could try the swap without blowing anything up. It would be good to run it through a chronograph and see if the velocity changes much.

Like Dave said , I see no problem with it as long as the fit is good , except that the pressure may lower and velocity a little slower .
