Default Grouse in Homer, NY

I had the opportunity to grouse hunt with a good friend of mine of land that my family owns a few hours from where I live. It is primarily used for deer hunting and some turkey. But the last several years, while deer hunting, I regularly heard grouse drumming and even flushed some birds in just walking out from tree stands.
Since the land had never been hunted for upland birds in the 25 years that my family has owned it, I figured it was worth a shot.
I carried a rough VH 12g. 1 frame that I own as my "beater" gun that I can hunt with a not care one bit if it sees father abuse in rough conditions.

We had two flushes with shots at both. I took the first one and missed the second. And, the squirrels are huge down there, so I grabbed one of those when I had the chance.

Your are going to have to kill a few more squirrels to go with that one.

good going Brian-

careful you don't get hooked on this.

that is the general area of NY that George Bird Evans used to find was worth the drive to hunt
