Default serial number

I have a Parker 16 ga. #238839 VH. It is marked OV on the flats, what does the "O" stand for?

Trojan. Both the action flats and the barrel flats should be OV if it's a Trojan. What does the rib inscription say the barrel steel is?

Looking in the Parker I.D. book, your serial number lists as a J, which is a Trojan grade. I do not know what the OV stands for but both my trojans have an OV on the barrel flats and the frame. Your gun also lists 26 inch barrels, I bet that is a sweet one to carry and shoot. Your barrels should also state Trojan steel on the rib. You may already know all of this.

The meaning of “OV” and how it translates to mean “Trojan grade” is something that is sadly lost in time.

Nobody knows what the letters O and V represent.

OV has been the marking used for Trojans since their inception in 1912. Long before Remington had anything to do with Parker.
