Default Question On Action Movement

Hi all, as I'm totally new to Parker guns, I have a question for those in the know.

When the gun is open and the forend attached, should there be any movement/play in the bbls to the left and right? The play is coming at the hinge pin.

When the forend is off and the gun closed there is no movement at all with the bbls, the gun is tight and opening lever is to the right.

Is this movement something to worry about on a Parker?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

Greg

If everything is correct on the gun there should be no movement, period. Has the gun been recase colored? I've seen recased guns where there is movement as you describe due, I think, to slight warpage. I would not worry about it if the price was right. Try putting a thin shim on the hinge pin and see what that does.

It is very common to have a slight amount of lateral play in a Parker when it is open and the forend is on. If the gun is on face and the lever is centered upon closing there is no problem. In fact I have a couple of guns with the lever a little left of center that are still tight and on face. I believe that the difference in the water table slot and the barrel lug contributes a little to this.

Dave - While it might be common to see Parkers with the lateral movement, I would venture that this is the result of wear, not that the gun left the factory that way. And I have two guns that were recased in the past by other owners with levers to the right and a slight lateral wobble in the barrels. I attribute that to changes in the frame caused by the recase coloring process.

Could very well be Ed. Maybe Eric will chime in here he has a as new skeet gun. Maybe he can assemble it and tell us of any lateral play. Boy wouldn't it be nice to be able to back to the factory and ask them?
