Default English/US shot sizing

I've often read that English (UK) shot sizes run one number less that US sizing but never tried to confirm that. That means. in effect, that UK #7 shot should measure like US #8's. Just recently I broke apart two shells from different boxes of the Gamebore shells shown in the pics. They're my favorite for grouse hunting in 20b vintage double-guns.

Shells are labeled 28 grams of #7. As many know 28 grams is a tad under 1-ounce and in fact that's what they weighed on my digital bullet scale. Shot averaged US #7.6 sizing and that's the average of 40 pellets taken from the two shells.

All this JFI.

So you're saying that your Gamebore #7s are equal to U.S. #7.5s, yes?

Hallowell's chart
http://www.hallowellco.com/shot_size_chart.htm

"Eley Shooter's Diary", 2005, gives different numbers:
4 - 3.1mm - .12" - 170/oz
5 - 2.8mm - .11" - 220/oz
6 - 2.6mm - .10" - 270/oz

Yes Garry I would say this lot of Gamebores is loaded with US ~7-1/2 size shot.

Drew, how about doing something productive yourself and telling us about it, instead of constantly latching on to other gents' threads with cut & paste stuff and to promote your site?

I’m having a good day and concluding otherwise is discounting me and my comment. Speaking of contributing I see that you’re shown as a Forum Associate not a member. Maybe that’s a membership roster error? Especially so for someone who's used this website for years.

Thanks, Frank! I have a stash of Gamebore shells in #7. Not that the small difference makes a big difference to me, or the Bobs, but it’s nice to know.

Thanks, Frank. I wonder if all Gamebore shells are actually loaded in the UK?

PGCA annual membership is only $40 , or less than the cost of a tank of gasoline for most of us. I think most of us feel that participating in an activity without financially contributing a fair share is freeloading . Some are embarrassed by that , others not.
