Thanks Patrick, didn't know if I was looking for words or symbols, like some other makers use. Her gun doesn't have any chokes marked, but does have a couple of symbols, a V in a circle under the right bbl, and a horseshoe shape under the left, and I didn't know if that was "choke code". Appreciate the help.

The V in the circle is the barrel material marking -- Vulcan Steel. The choke markings are generally only on late Ilion Parkers. From my observation they begin appearing in the mid 240xxx range and are pretty consistent in the 241xxx and 242xxx range. The late guns with the serial number on the left barrel flat, and no barrel material marking on the right. Guns with the grade, gauge and chamber length on the left side of the barrel lug.

Thanks Dave. Nice synopsis and appreciated. I should have thought of the Vulcan marking.

I've found this one interesting --
242087 01 Skeet Gun AK A = March, K = 1941; PL3 P = June, L = 1942, 3 = repair.jpg It appears the original choke markings were neatly machined out. Did Remington do this sort of thing when an order came in for a Skeet Gun? Take a gun from inventory and make it into a Skeet Gun? DelGrego? Other after market conversion? Or this with the original choke markings Xed out -- 242353 03 LL L = February, L = 1942.jpg |

That is intriguing, and pretty confusing to say the least! Apparently skeet guns would be the only type that this would be done on?

Dave, I would say that the top is not factory, but the bottom may be. What makes me think this is the stamping themselves. The bottom example uses stamps that are complete and in the proper style. The top utilize individual letter stamps and are not the proper font. Just my thoughts.
