Poodles, Parkers and Friends

Yesterday the poodle gang was at it again. With temps in the mid 70's it did not feel like late October weather. A very warm day to run dogs, but with lots of water breaks and rests in the shade everyone was still in good shape at end of day.

The dogs put up 16 birds from the switchgrass,10 were brought to bag. Needless to say the dogs were giving the stinkeye look to the guns by the end of the day for such poor shooting.

It's always great to get out and tramp the fields in the fall for the elusive ringneck. A great time was had by all, including the overheated dogs.

good going fellas..that one pheasant in the picture looks to be of a lighter color than most..some fine bird dogs you have there...charlie

Charlie, That's a white pheasant, pure white wings with a tan back. Sort of rare in this country, pretty common in the UK so I'am told. Click the pic twice for a better look.

i guess that pheasant would have to be mounted if i were the lucky person to have gotton it..lovely bird for sure...charlie

Oh the memories.

Pictures like that make me remember pheasant hunting years ago before clean farming and sprinkler irrigation came along and the pheasant all but disappeared. Now the only pheasant we can hunt are planted. Tried that, it's just not the same.

There was a fellow from Lawrenceville, GA who used to carry his poodle out to Arkansas duck hunting with him. He caught a bit of grief on account that his wife kept the dog groomed to the 10's with the stylish poodle cut. Looked unusual , if not downright funny, running across the rice fields, but the dog certainly did its part to quiet the jokes. Most people don't know what fine hunting dogs those poodle can make. Nice pictures. Looks like you had a fun.
