VH Triggers double

I have a 16 ga. Parker on O frame that is a delight to shoot as well as it looks. It works perfectly when the front trigger, back trigger are pulled, but doubles when the rear trigger is pulled. I dissasembled the action and cleaned it not finding to much (gunk) in it to clean, re-assembled and still have the problem. Can anyone recommend a reputable person to work on this trigger?

When you cleaned and inspected, did you check the right hammer and sear engagement? Enough crud buildup could allow the right hammer to stay cocked (barely) , but with insufficient engagement, which would allow the hammer to slip off the sear when the left barrel is fired first.

Larry DelGrego & Son in Ilion NY have the original Parker Bros machine that cuts/grinds the sears to restore the proper angle/fit. It's a pretty simple fix for them to accomplish.

I had a 12ga Trojan that I have owned since '84 begin doubling 3 years ago, when a pull of the front trigger resulted in the simultaneous firing of two 3 3/4dram 1 1/4 ounce loads of Bismuth. It killed the Greenhead I was attempting to shoot, made a very loud report and hurt my fingers by jamming them hard into the trigger guard. I was able to replicate the problem without pain by inserting an empty primed hull in the other barrel and looking for a primer strike after firing one barrel. When I realized the problem was not a random experience I took it out to LDG & Son for repair. The gun had been restored by them in 2007 so the action was clean, the problem was a worn sear.

When I cleaned and inspected the stripped receiver it was clean as a whistle. I then sparingly reoiled and assembled. I could not reproduce it with snap caps or jarring the butt as I pulled the rear trigger. I could also not see a lot of wear on either of the sears, but I guess it does not take much. I very well may contact DelGrego & Son to see if they can help. I have been reading this Forum for about six months now and I am very pleased with the help you guys give one another. You are also about the best behaved forum I have seen.

Sounds like your left hammer or sear might just be worn and not fully engaging. Is the trigger pull very light on that side?
If it is worn, that may cause it to let loose when the other side is fired. Recoil would be setting it off. If the pull is very light, that is most likely the issue.

Whatever is making your gun double, speculation here as to the cause is not going to fix the problem. A professional double gun 'smith must assess the gun and find the actual cause, then fix it.

At this point your gun is dangerous to use until it's fixed. Please be responsible and have it attended to.

I had some hot shells loaded up to shoot in a vhe 20 2 trigger, thought it should be no problem but I was wrong. Might check your load.
