Default ponness warren questions

Tryed loading some 12ga shells through my press today without much luck. I hace a brand new 2 1/2" in sizeing sleve for the press. I am haveing problems getting the shell out of the die. When you press it out it compresses the load alot. I am useing win aa cut to 2 1/2". win lite powder win wads and an over shot card. I am going to roll crimp. Dose anybody know wht I am haveing problems getting the shell out of the resizeing die. Will it harm anything if it compresses the load.

I have reloaded on PW machines since the late 70's and early on found that everything went better if I resized the hulls before reloading. Years ago used an old Texan resizer and for the last decade or so use the MEC resizer. I think that would help your situation a lot. Also, I only load brass head hulls. Hope this might help, JH

What hull are you using? Some hulls are hard to re-size - particularly steel base ones. As John said above re-sizing before you put the hull into the PW should solve the problem. The MEC Super Sizer works nicely for this. Billy

I am useing win. AA hulls. Was hopeing not to have to go to this much trouble. May just have to Buy another Mec. This Ponness Warren press wasn"t worth the money.

Wayne - I have not heard of people having those problems with AAs. This problem does occur with Gun Clubs and the resizing does fix that problem. Something else must be wrong. I have an 800+ and love it for reloading in all 4 gauges. What model do you have? I personally consider the PWs far superior to the MECs. However, the PWs take a little more skill to set up properly for your load. The MECs work fine in almost all conditions. First, I recommend you contacting Whiz White:

If you get totally frustrated, Trapshooters.com or eBay is a good place to sell your unit.

Hope this helps,

Not sure if I'm understanding what you doing , but it sounds like you are trying to push the hull out of the sizing die , after all components are loaded and before the hull in crimped , in order to roll crimp afterwards . Those machine are not designed to do that . You are putting alot of extra wad pressure on the load doing it that way , if that is what you doing ?

P-W reloaders feature full-length or near full-length re-sizing dies. Full-length re-sizing is precise and creates more friction to extract than the hull can take without being final crimped. P-W reloaders are not designed to extract the loaded hulls without being final crimped.

If it were me, I'd forget about roll-crimping. Instead I'd get myself a skiving tool to skive the hulls prior to reloading and then crimp them with the standard P-W 6 or 8 point crimp.

Two questions. What model of PW are you using? Are you fully crimping your shells or attempting to push them out of the die uncrimped as the previous poster suggests? However, I'm kind of a newby with the PW. I only own six and have only been using them for about fifty years.

Hi Fellows sorry to be so long in responding but I am out of town. Yes I was wanting to roll crimp my shells. I am loadiing 2 1/2" 12ga for my hammer guns. I am roll crimping to help lower pressures. If I use a 6 or an 8 point crimp I wont be able to fit the load in the case.
