Default Nebraska and Minnesota

Dick Dow and I went to the Nebraska Sandhills for a few days in mid September for prairie grouse. Too hot, in the low 80’s and the bird numbers were down over 40 percent from last year. Nevertheless, it’s a good way to start the season.

Then to Minnesota for ruffed grouse. Still warm and leaves on the trees. We will go back later in October. Dick and I were joined by Pete Kappes.

Some may know my hard hunting Lewellin setter Triple died in August. Her loss left a hole and I hunt hard. So my Pointer Bert is now joined by Fielder a Lewellin pup from Houdini kennels in southern Minnesota, where Triple was from.
Only 11 weeks old now she will go with me on all trips this fall and get used to people , other dogs and birds. She will have a life of birds, prairies and pup cups at Dairy Queen .

Great looking puppy! I will be bringing my 2 new female pups, Willow and Doodle on my trip to the UP in 2 weeks. I will get them out for walks down the 2 tracks and show them lots of birds--and wont be surprized if they point a bird or two. Working them on pigeons now, and they show great promise. Let's hope it cools off soon.
