Default New Patterns

Think I will try to pattern some of my guns at 45 yds and see how they do, got to round up my plywood and papers, will let you know how it goes, the first gun will be a 10 gauge A grade hammer gun, I will pattern all gauges except the elusive 13gauge which I do not have. 8,10,11,12,14,16,20 all at 45yds I will use RST shells where possible, Gary

Why 45 and not the standard 40 yards?

Gary, will you photograph each pattern, including right and left barrels from each gun, and document the pellet count within the circle you intend to use?

Sounds like a fun project and I see dean is angling for an article. I've found I get better patterns with the older hammer gun but I have not been very scientific about it.

Will you try to use the same shot size that each gun was originally patterned with?

Dean that might be a problem with the 8 gauge since I do not reload, I have letters that state the shot size on most but with the age and use I figure they will not pattern the same, this will be a new thing for me so if any of you have suggestions let me know. This will be a winter project good lord willing since I will be traveling off and on till November I will look to see if the letter on the 8 states shot size if so maybe a member can load a couple for me. Gary, do you, or anyone, know how to ship black powder shells? I have 2 boxes of 10 8 gauge shells manufactured in either England or Italy. They are "The Mammoth Heavy Load"by Gamebore. They are 3 1/4" shells with 2 ounces of no 3 shot. I will donate a box to your pattern project if somebody can tell me who I can legally use to ship them. I plan to send the other box to Charlie in Mississippi if he sends me his address. These shells are new, never fired.
