Default Dog Head Butt Plates

I was wondering how many different DHBP were used by Parker Bros. I have seen a few different styles with the spur and without.

We have had some very lengthy conversations about buttplates. Good luck in your search for those old threads. There is a buttplate section in The Parker Story that is interesting reading also.

Well, there was 4 major and common variations. And they differ based on frame sizes. 0, 1, 2 and 3. The number of the plate size is typically molded into the back side of the plate. (Note that 0 frame 16g, 1 frame and 1-1/2 frame 12g guns all used the same 1 frame plate, and that oddball frame sizes larger than 3 used the 3 frame plate. Sizes smaller than 0 used the 0 frame plate.)
Each of these plates were different dimensions and also had a different style or dog. Early plates had a spur And then later on they had no spur. So, that doubles the number to 8. Very early dogs head buttplates on larger frame hammer guns had a unique style of dog on them. And then in the Remington era, the plates dropped the "Brothers" and simply read "Parker". So, the true amount of variations in plates can be in the dozen or so range.
