Default Slugs

I have been told that I should not shoot slugs with my 1913 Parker 12-guage and I forgot to ask the party why. Is it a danger to me or is it bad for the gun? I have shot the gun a few times with a slug before and I couldn't see that it caused any problem.
Thanks.

what is the length of your chambers?

and which slugs - Foster style slugs are designed to be shot out of full chokes - one of the reasons they are less accurate than the true to bore slugs meant for slug barrels

i would be concerned about the pressures created by a slug load due to wad columns and the rigid weight of the load - but that is a guess

I don't know the length of the chambers as the gun is currently in shipment. However, I have the box of slugs here in front of me and they are "Winchester, rifled slug hollow point, 2 3/4", 1600 velocity. Designed for use in smooth bore barrels. Do not use in Damascus or twist barrels. Use only in firearms with markings exactly matching ammunition."

As I said, I have used the gun to shoot slugs before, just a few times as the opportunity to shoot a deer comes max only once a year.

I have mostly used brenneke....12 ga classic. Not recommending for your use but they work well for me. For 16 gauge, the 2.5" is fantastic in my vintage drillings.

Those Brenneke jewels shoot very nicely in an AH Fox A Grade 16 I have as well as a Pre WWII drilling in my accumulation .
