Default Checkering question

I'm looking at a D grade and it has 3 to 1 checkering on the forend, and 3 1/2 to 1 on the stock. I'm sure one or both have been redone. Is this possible to have two different configurations on the same gun ?
I'm really asking what belongs.
Thank you, Tom

I take it you are talking about the diamond size ratio?

I have found that the diamond ratio at the tip of the forend patterns is lower than that at the rear of the forend due to the surface area of wood in front of and behind the latch. Also, the width of the forend also plays a part in it too. But generally speaking, yes the patterns do utilize different diamond ratios from wrist to forend.

Post pics of what you have and i can give you an idea of if the patterns are correct or not.

Thanks Brian
I just assumed the ratio would be the same on both the forend and stock. These are clearly different. I follow your thinking front to rear of the forend do too the curves and such the ratio will change slightly but these have been checkered this way. I think it's correct just surprised they are different.
