Default UP

Leaving Fri. for 2 weeks grouse hunting in the UP. Cant wait, I am a week later than normal, but it should be ok, as it has been a little warm. The old VHE 20 is packed, along with the J. Manton 20 ga hammer gun with 30" twist barrels. COB will be in his cabin just 10 min away, so hope to meet up with him.
I took a bad fall just 2 days after returning from Hausmann's, and partially tore my right rotator cuff. Did 3 months of PT, and while it still bothers me, I am back to playing tennis. Just happy it didnt require surgery. I was able to shoot sporting clays all summer.
Betty, my beloved setter, had a bout with Geriatric Vestibular Disease, which mimmicks a stroke. I am grateful she has recovered and should be able to hunt. She is 11 yrs old, so i will cherish every day hunting with her .
I thought Edgar was going to try and sneak her home with him at Hausmanns, he took quite a shine to her.
I will of course post some pictures after I get back, but have no internet at the cabin, so will just leave the laptop behind.
Looking forward to hearing of everybodys hunting trips. Good luck.

Have a drink with COB for me. I won't be able to make it this year hoping I can make it next year. You may still run into some woodcock as it has been a very warm fall. Good luck.

Harold, you don't know how close I came to sneaking off with her. She is the sweetest pup (gotta check and make sure mine isn't watching me. He's a Border Collie, and knows how to read) and Harold is the only other guy I know who deserves her.

Take care of that shoulder. I thought I was good to go, and tore it again. Not so bad this time. A few more trips to PT and I'll be as good as NOS.

Good luck Harold. Sorry to hear of the bout with GVS. My oldest setter came down with it at 12 and never fully recovered. He walked with a slight head tilt and when trotting was a bit sideways. His balance also was never the same. You were lucky.

Eric, sorry to hear you and Magic wont be in the UP. I am really getting psyched to take off. Ernie Hausmann and Steve Cobb are in the cabin I rent currently.
Gary, wont know for sure if Betty is fully recovered until she hits the ground hunting, but I have been running her in the hayfields since August, and she seems ok. Two year old Fancy will need to pull her weight this year also, and I think she will do just fine, finishing strong last year.
