I have a Belgian pinfire double which was given to me by a friend. It a plain gun, but fun to shoot on occasion. I had custom made brass cases and reload my own.

About three years ago we had a 24 gauge O/U in the shop someone had brought in for us to sell . It was a kind of cheaper grade gun but I thought it kinda neat . The best part of the deal was it being sold with about a flat and a half of factory loads . Someone online bought it but I’ve often wished I’d purchased it just to play with a bit and send on down the road . Not to sure about 24’s but I know Fausti and Rizzini are making 32 gauge in both O/U’s and SxS’s so if that’s the case I would expect they might make 24’s as well .

I met a very nice gentleman at the Southern this year . He was a retired I think Federal judge . Think he was from AL or MS anyway he shot just about every gauge on the course including 24 and 32 . Seems to me he told me both of them were pre war Euro guns .

This same person had a FAMARS SxS 3-gauge, 3-barrel set in 24-, 32-, and .410 gauges. Gorgeous gun with a single receiver and a grouse on one sideplate and a woodcock on the other in gold.

I had one Manufrance Ideal that was originally 24 but the guy I bought it from had it chamber sleeved to 28. I thought I’d be the perfect quail gun, but I shot it very poorly. Then a couple years ago I bought a three gun lot from Rock Island. The gun I was interested in was listed as a Belgian 28 bore hammerless side lever double. When I got it home and looked it over and could tell something didn’t look right. First it was a German made gun. Second a 28 shell dropped past the extractor, a 20 wouldn’t chamber. After doing some measuring, it was clear that it was a 24 bore. I decided to have it chamber sleeved to 28. I shoot it really well on pointed quail.

I’ve also had two different 32ga doubles. One Spanish one Belgian. Wished now I’d kept the Spanish gun. I shot it well to.

There was a good article on the 32-gauge in the September 1933, The American Rifleman by James Vance, M.D. He had a lovely new straight-grip, 30-inch barrel, Lancaster 32-gauge. Unfortunately for the 32-gauge and its half ounce of shot, back in the June 1933 issue F.C. Ness reviewed the new Winchester pump for the new 3-inch .410-bore shell with 3/4 ounce of shot.
