After some cleaning, it may not be a rough as I initially thought it was, but I have discovered the right trigger screw is stripped and someone with ZERO mechanical ability has at least attempted to disassemble the gun. I suspect they were at least partially successful because none of the screws on the action are oriented correctly, and most are torn up from using the wrong tools. I am not a gunsmith, but am a machinist so I at least know enough to know the right tools aren't in my car repair toolbox. I will start wading through the for sale stuff for screws once I get it cleaned up. 0000 steel wool and WD-40 works, but it definitely has to be a labor of love . . .

Jeff, virtually no pitting but there are several dings on the outside of the right barrel. I don't think the previous owner had any kind of case for it, it looks like it has fallen over several times. Not sure yet if it will be a shooter or not, maybe just a fun project to clean up and admire.

Bill, can you see any of those dings to the outside of the barrels having caused protrusions to the inside of the barrels?

I have 30 in. on mine , but I'd kill for a set of 32's , but back to yours, best thing is the stock is not cracked. the stock and forend can be re-checkered and re-finished to look like new. the barrels look loose but that is a easy fix too. have the barrels re-finished, fix or make some new screws and you will have a great gun . if you take the gun apart you can send the metal out to be case colored while the barrels are being re-finished. I just love bringing back these old parkers!

Dean, there may be one on the right barrel that intrudes into the ID, or it may just be a build up of junk, I just bought some heavy duty brushes and solvent to get the barrels clean, I think the last time it was shot was before smokeless powder . . .there is a ton of residue lining the barrels.
Paul, thanks for the suggestions, not sure what direction this project is going to take yet, I will have to finish up some other work in progress before devoting much $$ to the restoration. For now, it may just be a through cleaning and evaluating where we are at. |
