I would never be afraid of anything made by Merkel. Does anybody know how to get a hold of one of those 16 barrels without having to buy a whole set?

Took a look at the set today. Actually both 20gauge barrels are 26 inch. Q1 and Q2 as well as IMP/ CYL AND MOD. WAS THE IMP/CYL barrels in 26” normal? Can anyone share the choke measurements for these barrel sets. The 16 gauge barrel Im guessing is a Galazan barrel. Picture attached.

Q1/Q2 .003/.006 some are .004/.007 this is the norm, IC/MOD .012/.018 norm. I have checked multiple sets. Both my sets of Galazan/Merkel 16 gauge have nice tight chokes, They came M/F .016/.031 = Mod/X-full if not altered. The factory PR choke for 16 M/F is .017/.024 or MOD/ light full. Normal full choke in 16 gauge is .026 I have killed many wild Kansas rooster with my full barrel from the Merkel set! SXS Ohio

Thanks Kenny can you tell me the length of the choks. Also any estimate on what a set of the Merkel 16 gauge barrels adds to a Reproduction?

Wild, I don’t know the number of three barreled sets (20/20/16) that were originally made. If I’m not mistaken the original 16 Ga. barrels were made in Germany or elsewhere, not Japan. Someone else I’m sure will be able to provide specifics. Was lucky enough to own one of these configurations for a while with the correct case, dust cover and original shipping boxes. Also stupid enough to sell it!! Wish I still had it! That third set of barrels in 16 GA will add quite a bit to the price.

Yes, Brett you are correct regarding the original 16-ga. Parker Repro barrels which were contracted out by Parker Reproductions to Krieghoff of Germany. I probably wasn't as clear as I could have been in my previous post to this thread where I referred to them only as being righteous.
One way to distinguish Krieghoff barrels from those supplied by Galazan is to look at the breach end, the Krieghoff's will have a band of engraving typical of the original Repros, whereas the Galazan's will be sans this engraving - unless, of course, the engraving was added later. The pic that Phil showed us above appears to be lacking this band of engraving and thus tells me that they were supplied by Galazan. There are other differences, but this is the simplest way to distinguish them apart with just a glance. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
