removing an inch will open chokes somewhat...removing three inches should give you no choke and a short barrelled gun...great for the grouse wood, but bad for most every other purpose.

It might, or the link may be disconnected. If a person studies the assembly diagrams in TPS or the Parker catalogs, he can see how the safety operates.

As Bruce says it's probably the safety rod was removed as many people do not like automatic safeties. An inch may have been cut off due to damage to the muzzle of the barrels. Chokes on most Parkers are 3 to 4 inches long so still being Mod doesn't surprise me.
