Thanks, Harold. Our party usually includes sveral others who would likewise boycott a Parker meeting in Binghamton or Vestal for a party at Ernie's. Can we put it to a vote? Who is running the show? I pay my Parker dues every year, don't I get a say?

Bob and others - i’m fairly certain that the PGCA BOD powers that be, if it’s being announced that the annual meeting will be held in conjunction with Ernie’s event, the banquet venue has already been contracted for.

I believe it’s out of our collective hands.

Who's collective hands? Doesn't the membership account for anything or is this run as a cabal for the few? Let's have some transparency. Who is making these decisions? Based on what, a cut for somebody's brother-in -law who owns a venue in Binghamton? As I said, let's put it to a vote, or is the "management" afraid of a little democracy?

The PGCA members make up only a certain percentage of the attendees at the NE, so it would be difficult for Ernie to accommodate us and set aside an area large enough for a tent. That field is pretty full during the day. My choice to stay at my campsite has nothing to do with The Annual meeting being elsewhere. It's simply because it means traveling to and back at night, and possibly (OK, being honest, Very Likely) having had a couple drinks. We, as a group, have had our beer and ribs social on Friday night since we started it, however, it makes no difference what night the Annual is held. Even if the dinner/meeting was held at Ernie's or the Golf course around the corner, most PGCA members who aren't camping stay in the Vestal area, so someone is still going to have to travel.
Despite Addieville only being 90 minutes away from home, when we had the Annual there, it was only a few minutes from the hotel most all of us were staying at anyway. Some years will be better than others.

A cabal for the few, huh? Reminds me of when a member of another Collector group suggested a new window sticker to promote that Association AND the Prez agreed on its website and in its Newsletter and announced a promotion to solicit suggestions; then two of the chosen few balked and the democratic process was mysteriously squashed.

Dr. Bob it is my experience in the time I have been an "annual" member that only the life members have a say in everything.

Tom, That's not the case at all. The Board of Directors listens to each and every member who voices his or her opinion both Annual and Life Members. The fact that they don't make their decisions based on just a few members but on what's best for the entire organization and the wishes of the majority. That's a true democracy. Unfortunately for the few with opposing points of view, even though they're heard and considered, things don't necessarily work out the way they had wished. The PGCA is composed of some 1,300 - 1,400 members and the BOD makes decisions based on what's best for the organization, not for the individual... or the few.
They have tried to hold the Annual Meeting in localities or states where there has been an outcry by a few that it is never held close enough to their homes.... and that hasn't worked out so well because of low turnout.

They can't please everybody all of the time but our BOD (which is made up of dedicated VOLUNTEERS just like you and me and everybody else) is always trying to do a good job... and I think they do very well.
