New member in MD

Hello - new member from MD

Have been reading through the site for some time now and figured it was about time to register.

I have no originals and have not been a collector for very long but have grown quite fond of the Reproductions...I've even managed to find a few that I enjoy very much.

My wife and I recently hunted South Dakota and it was a pleasure to christen my 20 gauge on my first SD hunt ever. I have shot clays w/it but it has never seen field use prior. My bride is from Aberdeen SD so we have been there several times but never to specifically hunt. Tagging along with us was our young GSP who is now 2.5. Everything about the entire trip was as if it was heaven sent and we could not have enjoyed it any more than we did.

Here's a shot as I'm going in for the flush toting my PR 20ga over my young GSP getting it done - does it get any better than that? Not for me

Hey Scot - Welcome to the Forum!!

Repros are an excellent value and a great gun to carry and to shoot. I have a couple of them and really enjoy them for both skeet and SC as well as grouse and woodcock hunting.

Get out there more often!!

I hunt as frequently as I can and my go to shotgun has been a 16ga Merkel for Pheasant along with a 28ga Repro for liberated Quail while dog training & Woodcock as they pass through the area. Owning a bird dog in an area virtually void of upland game is annoying to say the least & we actually DO live in a rural area (relative to the area that is). If birds were in my backyard we would be out almost every day returning home with a light game bag purposely. It is a shame to see urban sprawl - the tradeoff is simply not worth it.

I agree w/you - we need to increase the frequency of travel to hunt and begin considering a move as well.

Welcome to the Parker world. Back in my day of living and working in the Washington, DC, area, we had pretty good Quail hunting on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and down in Southern Maryland. Getting permission to go Quail hunting seemed fairly easy after Goose season closed. Most of the while I lived there Quail seemed non-existent in the Old Dominion, but the last couple of Dove seasons before I retired and left, I was running into quite a few coveys in the Shenandoah Valley.

Thank You for the welcome & also having shared your experience in MD along with the indication that the Shen. Valley may hold healthy populations - I will study up on that.

I do know there are pockets of Quail in VA but then the wisdom of hunting populations on the decline comes into play so..no use beating a dead horse as I am certain the members of this forum are no stranger to this topic.

welcome scott that was a fine picture of you youre parker and the dog..i ll like 20 ga s and have a few but i like the big bores the best especially the tens and eights ga s...welcome aboard the best site in the world on parkers and huntiung in general..we got all the parker pro s on this site..if you can t get a question answered here you gota go back in time to have it answered. charlie

Thank you Charlie - having no experience whatsoever w/any ga larger than a 12, I would hazard a guess that very good patterns can be achieved with those big bores...finding ammo must be a treat!!
