It was 15% when I bought from the auction two years ago....I believe it is the same now.

Mr. Lander reported on the Doublegun forum that it brought $9500.00. Did the seller/consignor not know what he/she had or were there condition issues??

ale 252 Lot 73 - From Museum Vaults - 04 Dec 2009 2:00 PM Main Gallery
Full Catalogue Entry Parker Bros. VHE .410 shotgun, made by Remington Lot Detail Sale Info Inquiry Estimate: US$8000 - US$12000 Sold for US$9,000 This is what CH Galleries has posted on their website today. I handled the gun Thursday and it had extensive spotting on the outside of the barrels. Not quite pitting but a lot of discoloration. The bores were quite nice. I would defer to George on condition issues beyond this simple observation...he was on site and is their condition authority. Note: I put the gun up to my shoulder several times and and each time it magically swung across the room and locked onto a good woodcock etching on the far gallery wall. |

Kent: I guess I was mistaken on the price. I was sitting just in front of the successful bidder. He was with Phil Watkins of Darlington Gun Works. I guess the auctioneer was asking for $9,500 as an advance & that's what I heard. The buyer, Phil told me, is the owner/manager of a rather large South Carolina low country plantation and he plans to use it on bob whites after DGW restores it. It is a nice honest gun, not pristine, but honest.

With a 15% buyer's premium, $10,350.00. An absolute bargain for an ejector .410. Not every astute buyer can be at every auction.

Bill: Right you are! I was expecting the .410 to top 20K. I wish that I had the extra dough to bid! Oh Well!!!
