Default Fish in a Barrel

Today we experienced a first and we have seen a lot over 40 years. Three mallards came in all hens and landed in the decoys. We sat up, they didn't jump, walked up on them they didn't jump, pointed guns at them and yelled Ha and they didn't jump. I walked back and traded my gun for my phone and took this picture of Scott lining 'em up. The bird on the left is one of my decoys. The other three are real. This is why folks should not feed wild ducks, I doubt any other hunters around here would have turned the situation into a photo shoot and bunch of laughs.

Could they have been pen raised "chicken mallards" ? Some landowners down here will raise 100+ birds , stop feeding them, and then shoot them when they come back to the pond they were raised on.

I don't think so David, just a late hatch, they were small, that got used to dining on bread crumbs and donuts in the nearby college town is my guess.

Nothing better than live decoys.
