Default Cost to have a english SXS rejointed?

Has anyone had this type of service done? I have sweet little W.R. Pape 16 gauge that is loose on the hinge pin...not real loose but it is noticeable when gun is handled. It will need a re-joint. Stock is 13 1/2" and will need a wood extension added also or leather covered pad??? Gun is 6-lbs 28" cyl/ tight full Tanks all SXS Ohio

I am not sure what gunsmiths charge in Ohio, however, in New Jersey I had an English SxS put back on face possibly three years ago by Griffin & Howe and it cost me $416.25.

Thank You Jerry....I had no idea what repair would cost. I have a 3 day return on the gun. It is such a nice little 16 and I do not want to send her back! So I will keep her and get it put on face. Did you like the work you had done by G&H ? I may use them also? I would want a gun smith who knows English guns. SXS Ohio

Kenny,

It will depend on how much needs to be done. This is a good video on what it takes https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8EqfxRugPVw. Mr. Rowe died in 2015 and was having medical issues when this video was shot, but he explains it well.

Go to Youtube and search under Midway USA and english gun smith, if you have not yet seen it before. He did a whole series with this retired english gunsmith taking apart and repairing english guns. Warning, you will be mesmerized on how he deftly handles and repairs these guns. His intimate knowledge of english guns was incredible which is probably to be expected.

Well done Ken, you beat me to it and actually provided the link.

Yes, I was very pleased with the work performed by Griffin & Howe. In fact, the double that they put back on face for me was a Birmingham made C.G. Bonehill. If you want a gunsmith intimately familiar with English guns then Griffin & Howe will fit the bill. They have done work on many many English guns. At this point I tend to use them exclusively for my doubles because they do very good work, albeit, a bit on the expensive side. With that said, I would rather pay a bit more for quality work than pay bargain prices for work that I will be disappointed with.

I know the 'smith who does this work for G&H. He's excellent. But so is Kirk Merrington. Trained at Churchills and nonpareil for this work.

This is NOT a job you choose based on price...

Ken,
A gunsmith with the handle SKB (Steve Bertrum) on the Double Gunshop site posted info and pictures of his high tech method for this procedure. Very impressive as I recall!
