Default splinter vs Beavertail on repro

I had major mishap taking some guns out of the safe, one fell to floor out of safe butt
first and hit carpet but it was staight stocked 20 ga Repro That I bought some time ago from Dean Romig. It cracked wide open
on wrist. It could have been some of the older older model Parkers and would probably been no damage. I have John Garvin in Albany Ga. that can fix without a trace of repair.
I took the 28 in barrels Q1 and Q2 and put on another 20 repro and they fit fine but Beavertail won't fit, however the splinter does. If the barells fit why won't the Beavertail fit
thanks in advance for advice

I have several PR guns and the 12 and 20ga models will sometimes interchange. You are lucky the barrels swap out at all, but I do have a 20 that excepts one other set of barrels and one that will take a set of Merkel barrels that I bought 2nd hand ...Drop down to the 28ga. guns and they will most always swap gun to gun for-ends and all. I have one 12 that will except other barrel set and both type for-ends.....I am real lucky on that set! SXS Ohio

Wow Pat, I'm so sorry to learn that about the wrist. That grain was as straight as I have ever seen in the wrist of any Repro. I wish I could answer your question about the forends - all I can think of is that there was some hand fitting even on the hi-tech, machine-made Repros.

Hmmm... Now that I look at it again, I do see some 'not so straight' grain in there. Maybe it was the other side that looked better. No matter - the damage is done. I hope it doesn't cost you an arm and a leg.

Maybe the barrels don't fit as well on the other gun as you think they do. A thousandths or two of an inch off sounds like an itty bitty, but could make a big big difference in the fit of that beavertail on a precision instrument, such as your Parker Repro. A judicious amount of filing by someone with experienced hands should be able to take care of the issue -- if you're looking to have it fit.

I have two 20 ga. repros, one splinter and one beavertail. The forends will not switch. They are close but not quite. Never tried the barrels. No need to since both are double trigger pistol grip guns.

I've heard stories of similar breaks on Repros but never would have thought that would happen to that one. But Claro is strange stuff - it breaks wherever it feels like breaking.
At least its not a messy break - that should make for an easy repair.

I decided to repair my broken 28 ga. myself since I wanted to recut the checkering and oil finish the stock anyway. It's been more than 5 years and many hunting trips, and it's still virtually undetectable where it broke. It broke at the same spot as Pat's. You can see one broken off checkering diamond where the break ran through, right near the right hand side of this picture.
