Default First evening hunt of 2019 !

My first evening hunt during hunting season of 2019 . Brought along my AR-10 with 338 Federal upper shooting Federal factory Fusion 200 grainers and my Parker Grade 0 top lever 10 on the 4 frame with 34” barrels and shooting my home cast and loaded 0000 buck pushed with SR7625 .

WOW!!! Tough choice, Grade 0 top lever Parker of the AR in .338 Fed?? Gotta hate choices!! Let me guess, 50 yards and in the 10g, beyond that the .338? Both are going to leave a mark.

I hope I’m able to plunk one with that 338 Federal as well as a recently built Remington 700 in 6mm-06 that shoots the Berger 115 VLD . Also recently acquired a 243 WIN AR-10 upper I’ve got loaded with factory at the moment but at some point I’ll handload Berger 105 VLD’s . And of course I’d like to kill one with that 243 also . One of these years I wanna be able to hunt with old favorites rather then striving to try something I’ve not used before . Maybe if I live to be 237 and kill a dozen a year until then I’ll have run out of choices and or new ideas

The 338 Federal is one of my favorite cartridges! You're loaded for bear...

I had a 338 Federal Encore Pro Hunter barrel a few years back and liked the cartridge but I’m not big on an Encore as a rifle so down the road it went . Earlier this year when Jerrys had the going out of buisness sale I bought a Savage bolt action combo deal NIB in 338 Federal for about half of dealer cost . Then later I ran across a deal on an older NIB Savage Hog Hunter in 338 Federal and bought it as well , see I have a 338 suppressor and the Hog Hunter is already threaded . Right after I got home from the Philippines in August I ordered the barrel etc to build the upper for my AR-10 . So in a series of weak moments I now have THREE 338 Federals

I think you mow the trees out of the way with the 10ga then shoot the deer with the .338 !

If the wind isn’t blowing to hard Thanksgiving morning I’ll sit slightly off the power line that runs down one side of our property . And I won’t bring the 338 . I’ll bring my also unblooded 6mm-06 and the same 4 frame 10 gauge but loaded with 630 grain Lyman style pellet slugs . Hopefully the wind isn’t bad and I can knock something down by 9:30 or so .
