Default Plastic shot cups

Can someone please tell me what year shell manufacturers began the switch from fiber wads to modern plastic shot cups? Thank You! Joe

I believe it was around '59 or '60.

I think you are right, '58 or '59. I was just a kid and remember someone showing me some 'new plastic wads'. I believe the ones I saw were made by a company called 'SAC'?. Down the road I used quite a few of them. They followed up with separate shot cups. I may still have a few down in the basement.

In about 63 I bought Remington 16 ga. plastic shells with fiber wads and no shot collar. Not long after that the Winchester mark 5 became all the rage because of it's marketing as tight shooting long range capabilities. Did they have shot collars? We have learned so much since those days of handicapping ourselves with full chokes and ''magnum '' shells.

I still have some ribbed black plastic Remington 16ga shells that have fiber wads that I bought in the early 60's for a Rem mod 11 an uncle gave me.
