Default Remington Restock/Repair Codes

Would Remington stamp a repair code for a restock?

And would Remington restock using a lower grade stock?

Remington would typically stamp repair codes for ANY repair work done.

When you say “low grade stock” so you mean quality of wood? Checkering? Shaping? Or all? A description of what you question would help.

This CHE on Gunbroker has 4 Remington repair codes.

The stock has a Remington grip cap so I assume one of the codes is for the restock, but the checkering is wrong.

That looks right for a remington restock. In the cases of late remington restocks, it was not uncommon for the geip caps to be straight remington. And for other things like checkering and such to be off.

Kirk ,just my opinion , but I believe this is a refit of a little bit older D Grade stock with a Remington grip cap installed and not a Remington restock ,if I were interested in the gun I would contact Duffys Guns and ask him to carefully remove the trigger guard and see exactly what for serial# is under the trigger guard before I would " assume " it was a Remington Restock ! Assuming usually costs me money ! The reason I say this is the age of the wood and finish on the Butt at the Skeleton Butt Plate appears to me to be a bit more aged than the finish on the wood on the rest of the stock ! Again ,just my opinion ,either way it's a nice looking gun and probably not a bad price for a Acme Steel barreled C Grade !
