Default Trojan Stock Finish......

......on the buttplate? My 1929 vintage Trojan has varnish(?) on the edge of the buttplate, as though the stockmakers carried the finish from the wood to the buttplate. I have been going through various auction websites, looking at Trojans. Many of the Trojans being auctioned have the same appearance with aged varnish on the buttplate. The finish on my stock is quite old, based on the 'crazed' appearance. Would the factory have applied the finish like that after the buttplate was fitted? TPS does not go into that kind of detail concerning final application. As always, Cheers!

Mark :
Think of the process of fitting the butt plate to the stock
. The ovrer sized butt plate is inletted/fitted to the wood
. The sandinging process is the applied to make all surfaces smooth
. The finish is then applied

I ALWAYS look for crazeing and finish on the butt plate on lower grade guns . This only my opinion as to process and final finish.

That makes sense, Allan. The stock on my Trojan appears to have never been removed. If it has, it was done by someone with experience! The wood to metal fit is amazingly precise for a lower priced model. The wood is still proud, and, with the finish on the buttplate, I was thinking it was original finish. Cool!
