Default 2012 LCSCA/PGCA Challenge Rules

The rules for the 2012 Challenge Cup and Hammergun Challenge are posted below. Please note that there are some changes for this year's Challenge Cup, so go over the rules carefully.

Event One will be shot on two separate 5-Stand fields, 30 targets each, for a total of 60 targets.

Squadding will be on an as-signed-up basis without regard to organization membership.

Please come out and support Team Parker, plan to enter both the Challenge Cup and the Hammergun Challenge, and enjoy the competition and camaraderie.

.PDF copies of the Rules are attached below.

Thanks,
Carl.

RULES
Ninth Annual L.C. Smith vs. Parker Challenge Cup
April 27- 29, 2012

COMPETITOR QUALIFICATION

1. Competition is open to members in good standing of the Association they are representing (LCSCA or PGCA). Membership Applications are available at Registration for those wishing to join in order to compete. Membership rosters will be on hand to verify membership.
2. Dual members of LCSCA and PGCA must choose ONE Association to represent at registration. Anyone attempting to shoot for both Associations will be disqualified.
3. Competitors are not required to own a shotgun of the make related to the Association they are representing. Guns may be borrowed for use in this event. See Equipment rules below.
4. Adult professional shooters (men and women), or an adult receiving sponsorship in any form from dealers, industry, or any other organization, are not allowed to compete in this event. An adult is defined as anyone aged 18 years or older.

GUNS & EQUIPMENT

1. Shooters must use a vintage shotgun promoted by the organization they choose to represent. Those shooting LC Smith guns and representing the LCSCA are limited to LC Smith guns manufactured in Syracuse and Fulton, NY; and those manufactured in New Haven, CT. Those shooting Parker Bros. or Parker guns and representing the PGCA are limited to Parker guns manufactured in Meriden, CT and Ilion, NY
2. Participants may use any hammer or hammerless model and grade Smith or Parker gun produced by those original gun companies. Reproductions or modern/imported guns marketed under these famous names are not allowed for this event.
3. Any gauge/bore size in which Smith and Parker gun were originally manufactured may be used in the Challenge Event.
4. Modified and restored guns are allowed, including stock replacement/alterations, recoil pads, shortened or lined barrels, mono-blocked/sleeved barrels, screw-in chokes, etc. Relined barrels must be in the gauge originally manufactured if the barrels were originally fluid steel.
5. Chamber inserts/shell-size reducers (Chamber-Mates and similar devices) and full-length barrel inserts/ gauge reducers are acceptable only for use in twist or Damascus barreled vintage guns.
6. Shooters using guns equipped with screw-in chokes may not change choke tubes once competition has commenced to include the initial qualifying event.
7. Eye and ear protection are required of all competitors.

Event One - Qualifying Round for Team Selection: Friday noon - Saturday 2:00 PM

1. PLEASE NOTE IMPORTANT EVENT ONE CHANGES FOR 2012. Registration will take place inside the LCSCA/PGCA Exhibition Tent at the Dove field as has been our custom; however for our 2012 Challenge Event, there will be ONLY ONE registration table that will be manned by representative from both organizations. With this year’s event, LCSCA and PGCA members will shoot on the same squads, with the organization represented by each participant noted on the registration form. We are making this change in order to accommodate additional shooting time; and to avoid situations where, in the past, we have sometimes had only one or two shooters in a squad.
For 2012, Event One will be expanded so that each participant will shoot 60 targets (two (2) rounds of thirty (30) targets each) to be shot back-to-back; one round at each of two separate 5-stand layouts. Participants will be assigned to a squad based on the order of their registration at the table, so if you wish to shoot with a partner/s, or as an entire squad; be sure to sign up together.
Participants may register to represent only one organization; and Registration will begin at 9:AM Friday morning, and shall continue thru approximately 12:00 Noon Saturday. Early registration is STRONGLY encouraged in order to keep the shoot progressing in an orderly manner. On each of the two days for Event One, signups will be concluded for that day when the last squad of shooters has finished shooting Event One of the Challenge Event; so don’t wait until the last minute to sign up and risk missing the cut-off.

2. An Event One Entry fee of $10 will be collected at the time of registration and verification of Membership; and all Event One participants will receive a custom designed pin to commutate their participation in the 2012 Challenge Event. Proceeds from the entry fees are to be donated to a charitable cause selected by the management of Deep River Sporting Clays, who continue to graciously host the Challenge Event.

3. Each participant of the Challenge Event will be responsible for their own Target fees of $15.00/30-target round, with said fees can be paid directly to the 5-stand vendor at the Dove Field shooting venues; but 5-stand tickets/target fees may also be purchased in advance at the Deep River Club House. However, DO NOT purchase an advance ticket and go directly to the 5-stand with the intent to register and shoot; ALL participants must be registered and squadded at the registration table inside the LCSCA/PGCA tent.

4. When members register for Event One, they will be squadded and assigned a specific shooting time; .and It is recommended that shooters plan to be at the Dove Field venue 30 minutes prior to that scheduled shooting time. If a shooter misses their scheduled slot, there may not be an alternative time/s available. And remember, for 2012 PGCA and LCSCA members can/will be shooting as part of a combined squad based on the order; and/or their request at the time of registration.

5. Practice shooting is available at the Dove Field 5-stand venue, and at an Open 5-Stand venue before Event One begins. Practice round slots are extremely limited, and only available on a first-come-first serve basis; but ALL 5-stand traps will be will be reset prior to the commencement of Event One competition at 12:00 PM on Friday, at which time practice rounds will no longer be an option. Again, and due to limited availability, shooters purchasing tickets for practice rounds may only sign up for ONE ROUND AT A TIME, and may not place their name in rotation for another practice round until they have completed shooting their first time through the course. Practice round targets are paid directly to the vendor, or purchased at the Deep River office and are not included in the $10 entry fee.

6. Target presentation for Event One will be 60 TARGETS fired on TWO SEPARATE 30 TARGET 5-STAND fields. The targets will be fired as two (2) Report Pairs and one (1) True Pair at each of the 5-Stands. As shooters complete 5-Stand one, they will immediately proceed to 5-Stand two, so be prepared with sufficient ammunition as there will not be a scheduled delay between the two 5-Stands. Each 5-stand layout will offer different target presentations to the shooter; and by increasing the numbers of targets thrown, a shooter who started a bit slow during the first half of Event One will have the opportunity to recover; an impossibility in the past given the limitation of the shooting opportunity formerly offered.

7. During each 30-target venue, shooters are allowed one gun malfunction with the opportunity to re-shoot any targets lost. Referee will verify malfunction, while the shooter maintains control of the gun in a safe direction. Any further malfunctions will result in targets scored as “Lost”. The decision of the referee is final. Leaving the gun on “SAFE” does not qualify as a malfunction.

Event Two - Challenge Cup Final Round: 3:30 PM Saturday

1. At the conclusion of Event One, representatives from the L.C.S.C.A. and P.G.C.A. will select from their team of shooters the 10 Challenge Cup Team members to represent their respective Associations; and the 10 shooters selected from each Association will be those shooters who have earned that distinction by shooting the highest number of broken targets from the 60 target presentation during Event One. Should the Event One results for either team reveal a tie score for the tenth and final team slot; the following tie-breaker rule will be utilized: the final team slot will be determined by the reverse long-run method; the highest number of broken targets scored from last target fired at in the event.

2. Event Two Participants must report to the registration tent after Event One in order to determine their status for Event Two Final scores will be tabulated by approximately 2:30 on Saturday, and names of Challenge Teams will be posted at that time. Alternate Challenge Team members (those three members of each organization with the next highest Event One scores) will be notified to remain on stand-by in the event that any one of the 10 qualified Team members cannot be located prior to the commencement of Event Two.

3. All Challenge Team members will be provided with commemorative caps, and will wear these hats during the competition so that each team can be identified.

4. Event Two, the Challenge Cup round, will begin at approximately 3:30 Saturday afternoon. Shooters who are on each Team should report to the sign-up table at the 5-Stand venue by 3:00 to pay for their targets ($15); and for squadding assignments, and team strategy sessions.

5. A coin toss will determine which team will begin the initial competition round. Squads from each team will alternate for the remainder of the event.

7. The course of fire for Event Two will be 30 TARGETS, fired as two Report Pairs and one True Pair. Target presentations will be completely reconfigured prior to the beginning of Event Two so that the “playing field” is leveled for each team

6. The winning Challenge Cup team will be that team breaking the highest number of targets out of total possible score of 300.. .

7. In the event of a tie team score, the winner will be determined by a shoot-off (a shoot-off between the shooter from each team with the highest score in Event One and Event 2 combined from station three). Ties in shooter scores for the Top Gun award will be settled in the same fashion; while ties for all other individual shooter awards will be broken by using the reverse long streak rule noted above).

Awards
Top Gun
Runner Up
3rd Place
4th Place
High Lady
High Youth (17 years old or younger)*

*Youth shooters can also qualify for the 5 adult awards*

TIES FOR TOP GUN AWARD

The Top Gun Award is presented to the shooter with the highest combined score from Event One and Event Two, regardless of which Team they represent. In the event of any tie(s), the representatives for each association will confer to determine the procedure for determining the final rankings. Conditions permitting, a shoot-off will be conducted immediately after Event Two to settle the ranking. It is the responsibility of all competitors to determine if they are involved in the shoot-off; and any qualifying shooter not present for a shoot-off will forfeit his claim to the contested award. It is strongly suggested that all 20 competitors in Event Two stand by at the shooting venue at the conclusion of the event to determine if they are affected. If conditions preclude a shoot-off, then ties will be resolved with the reverse long run of broken targets from the last target fired in Event Two.

AWARDS SCHEDULE

1. The Challenge Cup trophy and individual awards will be presented after the results for Event Two are finalized. The location will be at the LCSCA and PGCA tent area. The Challenge Cup trophy will be presented to the designated representative of the winning team. The winning Association is responsible for engraving their Association and year on the Cup. There will also be a non-traveling permanent award for the winning association
2. Individual awards will be presented to the Champion, Runner-Up, 3rd and 4th place shooters, based on their combined score for Event One and Event Two.
3. Awards for High Lady and Youth will be determined by the score in Event One. In the event of a tie, the tie breaker rule will be used. IF the Event One participants advance to Event Two, the combined score from both events will be used.

RULES
L.C. Smith vs. Parker Hammer Gun Challenge
Sunday, April 29, 2012

COMPETITOR QUALIFICATION

1. Competition is open to all members in good standing of the Collectors Association represented (LCSCA or PGCA). Membership applications for each organization are available at the LCSCA/PGSA registration tables for those wishing to join in order to compete. For existing members, membership rosters will be on hand to verify membership at event sign up.

2. Dual members (individuals holding active memberships in both the LCSCA and PGCA) can choose to represent only ONE organization. Participants registering to compete for both organizations will be disqualified, although a dual membership holder may compete in the Hammer Gun Challenge for a different organization than the organization represented in the Challenge Cup Event.

3. Participants are not required to own a shotgun of the make related to the organization they are representing, as qualifying shotguns are typically available and may be borrowed for use in this event (see equipment rules below).

4 Adult professional shooters (men and women), or an adult receiving sponsorship in any form from dealers, industry, or any other organization, are not allowed to compete in this event (an adult is defined as anyone aged 18 years or older).

EQUIPMENT
1. Participants are required to use only shotguns manufactured by the maker represented by the Collectors Association to which they belong (ie. L.C. Smith/Hunter Arms/Marlin for LCSCA or Parker/Remington for PGCA).

2. Participants may use any exposed-hammer model and grade LC Smith or Parker shotgun originally manufactured by these respective companies. Reproductions or modern/imported guns marketed under these famous trade names are prohibited for use in this event.

3. Any gauge/bore size exposed hammer gun produced by the above named companies are allowed in the competition.

4. Modified and restored guns are allowed, including stock replacement/alterations, recoil pads, shortened or lined barrels, mono-blocked/sleeved barrels, screw-in chokes, etc. Relined barrels must be in the gauge originally manufactured if the barrels were originally fluid steel.

5. Chamber inserts/reducers (Chamber-Mates, etc.) and/or full-length barrel inserts/reducers are acceptable only for use in twist or Damascus barreled LC Smith and Parker hammer guns.

6. Participants using guns equipped with screw-in chokes may not change choke tubes once the competition has begun.

7. Eye and ear protection are required to be worn by all participants.

Hammer Gun Challenge Event Sunday Morning; 8:30 AM Start

1. Registration will take place inside the LCSCA/PGCA Exhibition Tent at the Dove field as has been our custom; however for our 2012 Challenge Event, there will be ONLY ONE registration table that will be manned by representative from both organizations. With this year’s event, LCSCA and PGCA members can/will shoot on the same squads, with the organization represented by each participant noted on the registration form at the time of sign-up. Participants will be assigned to a squad based on the order of their registration at the table, so if you wish to shoot with a partner/s, or as a squad be sure to sign up appropriately. Again, participants must register to represent only one organization; and squadding and registration shall commence Friday morning, simultaneously with Challenge Event sign-ups, and continue until the beginning of the Hammer Gun Challenge Sunday morning, the final day of the Southern Side x Side. All participants are STRONGLY encouraged to register EARLY, as signups will conclude as the last squad finishes shooting.

2. All Hammer Gun Challenge participants will pay an entry fee of $10 at registration and verification of Membership status; and all proceeds from those entry fees will be equally divided between the treasuries of the LCSCA and the PGCA.

3. Hammer Gun Challenge target fees (tickets) are $15.00 for each participant and, for convenience, may be paid directly to the shooting venue operator of the “Dove Field”; or purchased in advance at the Deep River operations office.

4. Participants will be squadded at registration for their approximate shooting time; and the first squad will begin shooting at 8:30 AM. Participants should be at the Dove Field venue 30 minutes prior to their scheduled shooting time; otherwise risk an alternative time slot not being available.

5. Practice shooting will be available (but limited by time constraints) at the Dove Field 5-stand venue. Practice rounds are always available on a first-come-first served basis until the traps are reset for the Hammer Cup. Shooting practice will also be available, on a first come, first served basis at the alternate 5-stand at the dove field all day Friday and Saturday; but PLEASE NOTE that this alternate venue is available to ALL Southern S X S participants, and Shooters may sign up for ONLY ONE ROUND AT A TIME and may not place their name in rotation for another practice round until they have completed shooting their first time through the course. Again, tickets for practice targets may be purchased from the venue operator, or purchased at the Deep River operations office; and target costs are never included within event entry fee/s.

6. Course of Fire for the Hammer Gun Challenge will be 30 TARGETS, fired as TWO (2) Report Pair and ONE (1) True Pair at each station on the 5-Stand venue. Target presentations (all traps) will be thoroughly re-set for the Hammer Gun Challenger once the Challenge Cup event has been completed, so that no shooter will have an advantage from shooting the Challenge Event the day before.

7. Participants are allowed one gun malfunction during the event with the opportunity to re-shoot any targets lost. Referees will verify any malfunction while the shooter maintains control of the gun in a safe direction; and his decision is final. Any further malfunctions will result in targets scored as “Lost”; and failing to cock a gun prior to calling for the target/s does not qualify as a malfunction.

8. The winning Hammer Gun team will be determined by totaling the scores of the top 10 shooters representing each organization; the team with the highest combined score then being declared the winner of the Hammer Gun Challenge. In the Event of a tie between these Teams, the scores of the 11th place shooters for each Association will be compared to determine the winning Team. If the Teams are still tied, the scores of the 12th place shooters will determine the winning Team; and so on until the tie is broken.

TIES FOR HIGH GUN AWARD

The Hammer Gun Champion Award is presented to the shooter with the highest score in the Hammer Gun Challenge Event, regardless of which Team they represented. In the event of a tie/s, representatives for each organization will confer to determine the procedure for determining the tie/s breaker. Conditions permitting, a shoot-off will be conducted immediately after the event to settle a tie/s. Representatives from both the LCACA and PGCA will confer with the 5-Stand operator to determine the course of fire for any shoot-off; with the understanding that it is the responsibility of each participant to determine if he/she will be involved in the shoot-off. Each participant is strongly encouraged to wait for final Hammer Gun Challenge results if they believe there is a possibility they could be participating in a tie-breaker shoot-off. In the event weather conditions are such a shoot-off is not feasible, a tie/s will be resolved using the reverse long run of broken targets from the last target fired.

Ties for Runner-Up will be based on the results of any shoot-off, should a shoot-off be conducted. If a tie/s remains unresolved the above noted reverse long run tie breaker method will be employed to determine final ranking/s.

AWARDS SCHEDULE

1. The Hammer Gun Challenge trophy and individual awards will be presented at the conclusion of the Hammer Gun Challenge at the LCSCA and PGCA display area.

2. Individual awards will be presented to the Hammer Gun Champion (highest score), and the Runner-Up (second highest score).

Carl, the original unmodified rules are still posted on the "Events" section of the Home Page, under the subtitle "L.C. Smith vs Parker, Southern". Thanks for the update.

OK, the revisions show on the first part of the display. When we click on the "Read the Rules" link, the complete rules are not posted, but there is enough information for us to work from. Thanks so much.

Bill,

I just checked and when I "click on" Read the Rules I see everything that was sent to me in a Microsoft Word file(s). I admit I have not read the text but I did a side by side scan of the .doc file and the web pages and saw nothing wrong. To me it looks the same as what Carl posted at the top of this thread?

What exactly are you not seeing? Let me know and I will attempt to make it right.
PM me, we should take this discussion off the forum to spare others a lot of technical noise.

I'm sure everything is OK, but it still says that practice is available all day Friday and Saturday and that there is an alternate field available, which is last year's information. I don't think most guys are going to read the rules cover to cover anyhow. Again, thanks to you and Carl for your great work.
