Default 1875 "Stub Twist" 12 ga.

This is my first post on the Parker Gun forum.

This post is about a 12 ga. Parker hammer gun with front action locks. It has a wedge to secure the forend. The top of the barrel is marked "Parker Bros'' Makers Stub Twist" next to the lifter it is marked "Pat. Nov. 13 1866" in two lines.

The serial number is T4371. What does the letter "T" stand for?

On the water table, above the serial number, is a code which looks like "E.9R" Any idea what this stands for?

My final question is about purchasing a letter. What sort of information would be provided about the above gun?

According to the serialization book Parker SN 4371 was made in 1875 & is 12 gauge, underlifter action, no extras with 32 inch Twist Steel barrels. The markings "E (or F).9.R" it says "are found on early Parkers and are not understood, but probably inspection marks".

Best Regards, George

Thank you for checking this out for me George. These old shotguns are rather interesting.

Any ideas of what the letter "T" stands for next to the serial number?

Best regards,
Greg

Greg: According to "The Book" the letter T stands for Twist. And yes they are interesting and if they could each tell their story, what a story they could tell.

Best Regards, George
