My local "outfitter store" has a decent supply of Red Dot. My Visa card will be in use today!

For those who like Hodgdon Clays, International and Universal - the Australian company that produced these powders for Hodgdon is now reporting that the "production issue" of last year was resolved but then a "burn event" occurred in the dryer part of its process when it was brought back on line earlier this year. Net, latest word is their shotgun powders will not be available until late this year, and then the company will have to work through the order backlog. I don't use any of these powders myself but I thought I'd pass the word. It sounds like those who do might not see any on the shelves until next year.

Where did that info come from? Good news I suppose, but it doesn't explain the severe shortage of all shotgun powders, not sure what I believe at this point given the prolonged empty shelves at every retailer.

A fire at the plant that makes Clays and available later this year is what I was told earlier this year at one of the better shops I stop at often.

Info I posted earlier today came from a personal source in the industry.

A cousin sent this to me and I thought the group may be interested.

This site tracks which vendors have ammo and what their current price is.

Default Primers

I was at Bruno Shooting Supply in Phoenix, AZ yesterday and he had 40,000 Remington 209 Primers. Lots of pistol and rifle but limited shotgun powders. Hope this helps

I was reading some of the threads on Trapshooters.com about powder availability at the Grand American shoot earlier this month. This is the biggest trapshoot in the country with a lot of vendors in attendance. From what I read only one vendor, Graf Supply, had any powder to sell and they say it was a limited quantity. Graf would only sell powder as part of a package of primers and wads included to prevent hoarding but that irritated some folks who needed powder but not primers and wads. If only one vendor had a limited supply of smokeless powder at the Grand American the shortage of powder remains severe.

It was reported on the shotgunworld.com reloading forum that the ADI plant that produces the Clays line of powders for Hodgdon is up and running again. According to a Hodgdon rep the 1st batch of powders has arrived at Hodgdon and are going through their quality assurance for testing.

If the above is actually true and factual we may see some Clays powders in a few months and if Clays is once again available that should ease the demand for alternative powders.
