Default 1879 Parker lifter 12 gauge finsihes

I would like information as to how this gun might have been finished. I think it could be shot, but my concern is to have it looking nicer. The lock plates appear to have been nickel plated?

How are Damascus barrels refinished? ( Don't shoot me!) I don't think this is particularly valuable gun, or I wouldn't touch it.

Would i be wiser to use 28 gauge inserts if I want to try it out?

All help much appreciated! I am new to this group and new to old doubles.

Tom

Tom, good pictures and a serial number would help. Measuring barrel wall thickness is also necessary and an overall evaluation by a certified double gun Smith is also warranted.
