Default Frank Lloyd Wright in the Lowcountry

Some of you may know that Frank Lloyd Wright designed a main house and entire compound for Auldbrass Plantation in South Carolina. As the crow flies, it is about a mile from my parents' place. The coolest thing about it is the dock house which Julia and I took our boat down to see yesterday.

The next trip you make to PA Mills make time to see Falling Water. A FLW design that must be seen located in some beautiful country.

FLW was truly a conceptual genius. My brother, Jon Romig, is a professional architect and has always held Wright in the very highest regard as an American architect.

Visited Taliasan[sp] West in the Phoenix area. I thought it was pretty cool until my wife pointed out that there wasn't a closet in the place or a nail to hang a hat on. It is used a small school for architects

With Auldbrass, someone told Wright there was no way he could design a house without a single right angle. Supposedly he took the challenge and there is not a single right angle in anything Wright designed for Auldbrass

For a time, we lived in Midland, MI. As you probably know, that is the home of Dow Chemical. Alden Dow was a descendant of the founders, but he found his calling in architectural design, not in industrial chemicals. There were a large number of Alden Dow homes in Midland, and he was a passionate student of Frank Lloyd Wright. In fact, our home was an Alden Dow home on the first fairway of the Midland Country Club, and to this day, remains one of my favorite houses ever. I wish I had a photo saved on this laptop of it. It was a beauty. I miss Michigan, but I love Kentucky.....

Daryl is right, Falling Water, is a cool place to visit, and it is in beautiful country. Maybe take a raft trip down the Youghiogheny while you are there. Also several great sporting clays courses nearby--Hunting Hills, Nemacolin, and Seven Springs. It is a nice day trip for me.
