Default Ah, The Good Old Days

From a 1920s local (Macon County, Missouri) paper. Sure seems the news was indeed better "way back when." I'll bet these high school teachers would have been great instructors!

When I lived on the edge of PA’s Endless Mountain region back in the late 1970’s to early 80’s. There was a paper from the next county south called the “Sullivan Review “. At that time they still reported such social highlights

Even would mention that mr and mrs so and so are away for a week visiting some relatives far away

Imagine the crime spree that would bring on in the big city

Rick, Neat stuff!

When we first moved to Missouri (1980) the "Big City" newspaper from Kirksville (population then 14,000) ran columns on the smaller local towns. We don't live in any town, but when my wife's brother and sister-in-law came to visit us, they were shocked to see that their visit was included in the Greentop Items column (I guess someone included us in their gossip).

So much has changed, and much is lost as time goes by. Nice to remember the way it was on this Independence Day.

My late wife's Aunt wrote one of the happening sections of our local newspaper and once reported that Mr. and Mrs. E.E. Neal had the new preacher for Sunday dinner. The fact that she failed to say how they cooked preacher has been joke in the family ever since.

I've "been had" many times...but never for dinner...
