Here is Red Dot in the heavier, 2 3/4 inch, 28-gauge load --
RANGER SKEET LOAD 28-gauge 2 3-4 inch.jpg Even as marked up as it is, this very early box of 2 3/4 inch, 28-gauge, Skeet Loads went for $470!! Well past my comfort zone. Similar box from Remington on GI for $50 -- SHUR-SHOT 28-Gauge, Skeet Load 01.jpg SHUR-SHOT 28-Gauge, Skeet Load 03.jpg |

Has anyone ever dismantled a 28 gauge Red Dot load to see if there is actually Red Dot powder in there? Second question, has anyone seen the box that Winchester 16 gauge compression formed, eight segment crimp shells came in? It is certainly a shell identical to a AA shell, but I don't know about the nomenclature. I still have a stash of the empties, but no box. I guess Dave answered my question on Craig's thread. Is there a AA box of 16s out there somewhere?

The UPLAND shells as introduced in 1971 had a 6-point sealed crimp, the same as the compression formed Super-X and Super-Speed.
UPLAND 16-gauge six-point crimp.jpeg UPLAND Introduction 1971, Compression Formed 02.jpg In the 1983 Winchester ammunition catalog they state that the UPLAND shells now have the 8-point AA style crimp for easier reloading. So, they would be in this style box -- UPLAND 1982 cropped.jpg The Xpert Box -- XPERT introduction 1985 cropped.jpg and of course the 16-gauge Dove & Quails for a few years -- Dove & Quail 1983 cropped.jpg |
