another parker newbie with questions
Hello All, I have been here before. when I was younger, much younger I inherited my grandfathers Paker Trojan. I was 14 or 15 when I got possession of it. somewhere along the way it broke at the wrist. One of my elders repaired it in fairly descent fashion with nicely made hand formed brass plates and screws. If I knew then what I know now I would have left well enough alone. Unfortunately not having a elder man in my life, I did not. All I ever wanted was to shoot that gun. I was advised that I would be dangerous because of the repair. Looking back I am certain whoever repaired the gun continued to shoot it so if I had I in the same condition I would not hesitate to take it afield. Obviously with target loads nothing high powered. I attempted to have a stock made for it and it turned out a sad and horrible story wherein I was just glad to get the gun back. I received it in much worse condition than it left in, and I suspect that is why I had trouble getting it returned.
On with the story. I put the old 1913 trojan away in my gun safe knowing that one day when I could I would get it repaired. I had been online and seen what parkers sell for and determined that one day I would at the very least buy another. Well that day arrived, and wouldn't you know it I found 2 great parkers. All this time more than thirty years since I received my first parker, I finally got to shoot one.
So on to the real reason I started this thread. First i found a 1903 Parker VH that looked to be in really good used condition and all original for a really good price. So good in fact I immediately bought it. I was really happy about acquiring this gun at a price that was far less than what it would cost to have a stock made. I went to see a friend and he told me that he was selling some guns for a old fellow that was letting go of his collection because he was too old (I expect I'll be dead before they sell my guns). He had a Parker Bros Trojan much like the one in my gun safe made 9 years later in 1922. The funny thing was when I looked at the gun I said it looks like it was refinished so I'm not really interested. My buddy said its never been refinished thats the way it came. I popped it open and checked the serial numbers and they all matched. Well it was also a really good price so I bought it as well. Now the real reason I am here. I don't care too much about appraisal I bought these more for the love, I do love guns. what I would like to know is if this guns is what I have been told it is. I will attach pictures so you know what exactly I am describing. Pictures of course are worth 1000 words.
I was told the the Trojan was not refinished. The barrels look almost brand new, so much that is the reason I checked the serial numbers. That action looks very average and seems to have wear but I have no frame of reference for this. the for end is in great condition and matches the stock and I believe the recoil pad is original. So I humbly come before you, those that know, to ask your opinion and tell me what you see.
