Nelson Groves(RIP), was legendary amongst Ohio grouse hunters. He lived in SE Ohio during the hayday of Ohio grouse hunting. While hunting one day, a bowhunter put an arrow thru his setter. Apparently Nelson confronted the bow hunter, but had enough self control not to shoot the man. I believe I would have put a right and left barrel into him and let him dangle from his tree stand.

God.. I hate reading or hearing about stories like this... It is unbelievable that someone could shoot someone else's dog.... Horrible... and unforgivable...

I agree completely with you Marty. It is hard to read about dogs being killed. I've never experienced it myself but a hunter on a property near ours killed a black lab with an arrow. His excuse was the dog was running deer. He was trespassing and my theory was the dog was hanging around his stand. I knew the dog, a fat retriever who couldn't run deer. He was very friendly, unfortunately. The dog made it home with an arrow in his gut and died on the front porch. It was a horrible thing and I still cringe when I think of it.

Nothing ever happened to the guy. If it was my dog, I would be in jail. Even though it wasn't my dog, I still harbored thoughts of revenge on the guy.
