Default 20 gauge paper loads

In my panic to find primers I purchased 400 primed 20 gauge paper shells 2 5/8” Cheddite. I thought they were 2 1/2” hulls but the are the same length as a spent 2 3/4” hull. Anyone have a recipe for these? Help appreciated.

You can trim those shells by making a simple jig. Others here have done so.

I would leave them as they are. I think that is the end of the story. Tell me why you would not leave them as is. Use "any" recipe. They are beautiful hulls.

I have had zero luck getting a good folded crimp on those hulls. It seemed odd, as I get far better results with the Cheddite 12ga. paper hulls.

For the 20s, I trimmed them to 2 1/2", 14.5 grains Alliante 20/28, SG20L wad, 3/4oz #8, and roll crimped them.

I've used those hulls. I found a load in an older Lyman manual. The main problem with it is that it is very dirty (and a bit loud). No problem for hunting, but you have to clean off the barrel flats often during a round of sporting clays. The load is intended for 2.75" hulls, but I trimmed them down to 2.5" and roll crimped them. Recently, Ballistic Products had some of the paper Cheddites in 67mm instead of 70mm, so no need to trim for short chambers. Anyway, the load is:

24 grains Blue Dot
RXP20 wad
7/8oz shot
Ched 209 Primer
Pressure: 7300psi
Velocity: 1259fps
