The C Bernard 16 ga shown previously in this thread is one of three known existent and is the only known 0 frame one. It is a nice and significant gun.
Several 20 gauge Bernards were made and one 28 gauge but none are presently known. The 28ga is a 30 incher. I've been looking for many years. Who knows, there may be a few of these tucked away in private collections where owners let no one know, or back in closets where their significance is unknown. One of the few known other small bore Bernards: |

This is the 20 ga. DHE I traded my 30" 2 frame CH for. It has clearly seen a lot of use, as evidenced by the minimal remaining checkering on the buttstock, and perhaps less than 50% finish on the barrels, but what I saw when presented with the possible trade, was one of the most beautiful pieces of wood on an early DHE.
When I can clear my bench of some case work, I'll get it apart and send the wood up to Mr. Globe Trotting Dawe. |
