Rod:
From what you say, your gunmaker is probably an ironmonger. Stanfort & Laxton is not listed in any Boothroyd or Nigel Brown volume. Many shops had their own names put on Birmingham guns. This is probably your case. It does NOT bean the gun is poorly made.

The 14 indicates that the gun was proofed at 14-bore. 12c is 12-bore chamber. Originally, one barrel was choked - probably the left. If you are sure the chambers measure 2 3/4" then they've been lengthened. Use moderate loads only if the gun is shootable.

If you care, email pics to dgclassics2@yahoo.com and perhaps I can tell you more.

Best, Kensal

Rod ,If you look at the bottom of the box where you reply back ,you will see two boxes ,if you click the Right Box " Advanced Reply " you will see at the top of the Box an icon that looks like a paper clip ,click the Icon and attach your pictures from your PC ,Should be as easy as that ! You will see once you attach it will say loading wait till it loads and then go back to the first screen and they should be there for you to preview before posting ! Best ; Russ
