Default Laser welding work - what can be done

Just to show what can be done with laser welding. The “filler rod” was C 1045 steel. I posted these pics once before and wrote that the welding outfit was not soliciting gunsmithing type work. But despite that I had many requests for the contact info. PLEASE once again, no requests for that info which I’ll have to respectfully decline - it's not my choice to do that. But with all said your gunsmith should be able to find a professional laser welder if you need similar work done.

Thanks for posting those again. Would I be correct in assuming that doing similar with pits on Damascus would not work out so well? Would the repairs show through the blackening when the barrels were refinished?

Contact Brad Balchelder. He can do it for Damascus.

Is there an outfit that does true laser welding like this and wants our vintage gun business? If so, I'd like to see it posted on this site with a link for future reference.

Here's a link Micro Precision Welding located in Michigan that does work on firearms. I have no personal experience with them.

Lazer microwelding has forever changed the world of professional firearms repair. The correct method of repair has always been to fit a new part. As parts no longer exist for many guns we have long relied on our machining to make new parts. Welding has always been frowned upon due to heat transfer.
we are now able to save many parts no matter how small or intricate.Welding pitts can save an otherwise ruined barrel. The key is understanding the limitations of the base metal.
Finding a welder that also understands firearms is difficult. Most shops can't bother with small jobs. Fortunately we generate sufficient volume enough to keep our welder busy. Iam sure that we will eventually bring it in house.
Again I can't say enough about the benefits of the process.

Here are some additional pics posted once before ….. another laser welding job, this time to fix a bad ding and undercut to its left, in the muzzle. The third one shows the muzzle filed flat and ready for chamfering of that tiny bit of weld at edge of the bore. Unfortunately I must have misfiled the 4th pic showing completion to include color matching, but you’ll get the idea .....
