Default Dover Plains NY Hunt

Just returned from a four day bird hunt and a Pheasant Tower shoot in Dover Plains N.Y. Shot birds behind a German Short Hair with the Parker GH Damascus made in 1894..let the birds get out a ways because of the tight chokes. My buddy and I shot a mixed bag of 24 one morning hunt. This was a mix of partridge, chuckar & big Pheasant.Really big !!
Next day I shot my first tower shoot. There were 20 shooters ,2,400 birds thrown. My personal bag was 138 ,not including wood pidgeons .
I had to use my O/U for the tower shoot..a lot of shooting.
This was as good as it can get for an old man.

OMG! I worked my Lab (the one in my avatar) at tower shoots for years. Typical shoot was 10-20 birds/gun. Biggest was probably 50/gun. Can't imagine 120/gun. How many dogs were used?

Sounds like an great time Bill! Ten Mile is owned by the same people that own Dover Furnace Sporting grounds that Craig Reynolds and myself shot at today.A first class operation all the way.

There are 10 bunkers or stands surrounding the tower used to flight the birds. Each bunker has 2 shooters.Between each bunker is a guide/handler that has from 2 to 3 dogs.
They get a real workout on this shoot but have a smile on their face.
We shot 5 bunkers ,broke for a venison stew lunch and shot 5 remaining bunkers that afternoon.AM shoot was odd or even..reversed in the afternoon.Every shooter shot each bunker.Dogs were Spaniels and Labs mostly, they had more fun than anyone.
Ten mile shooting preserve has a web.

Bill,
Texas to New York. Quite a trip but worth it for all that shooting. Who are the people in your photo's? Glad you had a good time but 2400 birds is over the top. The ones I regularly attend throw 500 birds and I thought that was alot. Whew!
