Default Iowa roosters

Just returned from an outstanding week in west central Iowa with my son and a friend who is from the area.

The 12 gauge 1908 DH was a joy to carry and performed well with RST #5's. My son killed his first pheasants and his young Brittany did a fine job.

Forgot to add that we also added a coyote to the bag which came unexpectedly from a nice point.

Looks like a fantastic day. See many birds? If you don't mind me asking, what was the general location you were hunting?

We were mostly in Shelby and Audubon Counties around Kirkman and Irwin with a few properties up toward Manila and over to Elk Horn.

Nothing like a South Dakota game farm but with enough boot leather limits we're made on both private and public grounds.

Robbie, appreciate the reply. I happen to have been looking at some public ground in that area since it's relatively close to where I live.

Again, not huge numbers of birds but the V&W Petersen Wildlife Area tract on the Shelby and Crawford county line is worth checking out if you are in that area.

Robbie, appreciate the follow up. Actually visited V&W Sunday before the rain storms kicked in (imagine that, a rain storm in Iowa end of November. That is quite the hunting spot, 440 ac with a combination of grass, corn and soybeans, and some timber. Unfortunately it was just me and my lab and didn't kick anything up. With the cover and food I can't imagine the birds aren't there. On the way up I saw two flocks of pheasants, one of about 10 and I bet 30+ in the other. Unfortunately I couldn't locate the property owners (yet).

Worse thing was that my pup got ahold of something that caused massive vomiting followed by difficulty getting up and walking. Thank God she is almost completely back to her old self. I was really worried last night.

Thanks again,
Kirk
