Hmmm... three Salvelinus Fontinalis and one Salmo Trutta... sea run or stocked??
What happened to the little guy on the bottom? Is that wound from a lamprey? ... more probably a loon or a heron. Looks like you kill them in the old Maine guide's way, same as I do. .

Top two are stocked, other two are native and you are right Dean, heron wound on both side of the trout. Law requires immediate kill, done the old guide way with fish iced right after. Not sea run, I release all of those except the rare trophy brown. These are from spring fed tributary of the Presumpscot River

I also hate the wait, but try not to wish some of my life's time away. Our squirrel season opened at the end of May, but it's so darned hot it's not a viable option for an old guy (that would be me!). We start scouting for dove fields in mid August and it's generally a bit cooler in the early morning.
Traveling to Barnes, WI next week to attend the program about Gordon McQuarrie. Trying to fill the dog days gets harder and harder each year as I get more impatient to spend my time with the dogs chasing birds. The dogs seem to take all things in stride. Why can't people be more like them (except for the sniffing, er, well, you know...). |

Not to hijack the thread, but what is the "Maine Guide way" of killing a trout? Much of the water I fish is Catch and Release, but every once in while, I get on some water that allows taking a few fish. Nothing better than fresh caught trout simmering in butter in a cast iron skillet over a wood fire....

To me Gordon Mcq was the greatest " duck " hunting writer.
