Charlie

8 oz would be worth about 8500 today. I was working in the West Africa trade when gold went to 300 oz. boom in cargo from the US and Australia to Ghana. No telling how many pieces of Caterpillar equipment we carried for large Heap Leach mines. My guess is we made more money on freight than the miners did on gold considering the cut the Ghana government took off the top.

Rich, I have also used Zip Metals for lead shot when I couldn't find it locally. Very fast service and competitive pricing.

Roto sure responded quickly and enthusiastically to my offer to send them a few hundred pounds of Sn-based babbit bars. The post office told me today that they don't care if I make the med size flat rate boxes 70#, that they get that a lot, so.... I can mail 200+# for very small money compared to trucking it south. Three boxes will only be $43. Too bad they don't offer a 5-gal metal bucket flat rate. I could get about 250# in that. I'm going to make a tidy profit on this deal regardless of how I ship it.

At -40 and an Alaskan storm howling you may find that they were more valuable holding the outhouse down!
