Default winchester or Remington?

When did Winchester and Remington make them. Can you tell the difference? I remember,i think, when Remington came out with them I almost bought one, but couldn't pull the trigger. I'm in the market now for a sxs and have considered several used guns, aya, csmc, fausti, and Webley and Scott and PR's. The more I look at them the more I remember when the repro's came out and am concentrating on a repro now. They are just beautiful.

Kurt - Welcome to the PGCA!

There's an awful lot to know about Parker Bros., Parker (under Remington ownership from 1934 until WWII caused the cessation of Parker production), the Parker Reproduction by Winchester, the few that Remington made more recently, and lastly, the handful that Galazan made (and may still be making by special order) under permission by Remington Arms.

So, you should buy yourself the two-volume set of The Parker Story - or at least familiarize yourself with all the tabs on our Home Page in the column on the left.
FAQ's are extremely helpful but the information under each tab will be of great help in learning about Parker Shotguns.

The Parker Reproductions were built in the Winchester Olin Kodensha factory in Japan for the Parker Reproductions company. They are easy to ID because they are all marked "Made In Japan" on the barrels. The very few recent guns that Remington made are marked "Parker" with the Ilion,NY address.I have not seen a Galazan gun,so I don't know how they are marked, but I am sure they will have CSMC on them somewhere.

I have seen a new remington gun. But i did not note how it was marked. They are still techniclly Remington guns, just built by CSMC.

Kurt,

A Winchester repro will be considerably less (~10x less than) than a CSMC made Remington Parker.
