i would agree with wayne s findings on the buckshot.. buckshot is a very effective if ranges are kept with in reason.but i have known of deer being killed at far ranges with it..such as one i knowed of was killed at 105 steps one shot of 00 buck hit the deer in the burr of the ear not another hole in deer..other long shots i ve heard of but these are lucky shots...quarting away shots arenot good unless a person gets a very close shot... i hope you get a good one with the old 10 ga...we ll be waiting for the storey and pictures... charlie

Last week or so a fellow on Gunbroker had some 0 Buck shot for sale in ten pound bags , it's gone now I kinda wish I had gotten ten pounds to try . Might just go to BPI and get some 0 , 1 and 3 buck . Seemed Hornady is just making 00 and 4 now .

for some reason in the old days seems like the factorys loaded the ten ga in mostly 0 buck or no 1 buck..of the buckshot shells in my collection in ten ga this is what i mostly have which is few...i ve loaded the 000 buck in the short ten it holds 8 of them it really patterns good at 40 yards...i ve shot several deer with no 4 buck in the 3 1/2 inch ten i believe there is 54 pellets in a shell...theres 27 no 4 buck in a 12 ga 2 3/4 inch loading so a short ten should be ok with 27 to 30 no 4 buck... i ve seen several boxes of ten ga 3 1/2 inch in 0 loadings by winchester and also no3 buck in the big ten...these boxes of buck was loaded around the late 30 s to late 50 s..as every body knows there not been any short ten buckshot loaded in years but they do load the 3 1/2 inch in 00 buck and no 4 buck and these are loaded by federal..i have not seen any winchester or remington loaded buckshot in a few years... charlie

I seem to remmember seeing Remington 2 7/8" birdshot shells still being made into the late 70's . Grandfather shot them in the W&C Scott 10 I have now . At the time that was his dove gun .

I am hoping me forend will return for the LC this coming week !
After that I'll try the firing pin on some primed empty hulls . IF all goes well I think I'll shoot a couple more patterns with 00 , #1 and #4 Buck at 25 yards .

i bet they shoot mighty close at 25 yards... i dont know why but it always seem like the deer are just at the outer limits of my buckshot loads.. charlie

Dunno I've shot quite a few 24 of 25 rounds at skeet using that old Scott shooting both 1 1/4 ounce handloads of #8's and a couple times with 70's Remington Shur Shot #4's factory loads .
