You can ask, but the last time I tried I found that a lot of the individual stores have opted out of that plan on specific guns. It appeared to be a somewhat voluntary thing depending on the manager.

I also found that at my local store a couple of miles from my house they kept quite a few used guns in the back. They no longer have a gun library, and keep these in the back on an "asked for" basis, even though they are not advertised in the Cabela's inventory.

Jerry they still do but there is not one close to me, Richmond I think is the closet to me 100 miles so I will pass on this one and look at bidding on the SBT in RIA Thanks every one I have been educated a little on Ithaca, SBT, but tell me are the Flues better engraved than the knicks! Gary

Hey Gary,
I found a few pictures online since I don't have many comparison photos on my phone. In my opinion only, I prefer the lines of the Knick over the Flues.
You will have to decide which you prefer
I believe the earlier Flues may have had finer engraving versus later Flues, the transition to the early Knick was similar to later Flues, and then the latest Knick's had less engraving than the earlier Knick's. The last of the Knick's were produced in 1980.
This a fairly early 1917 Flues with finer checkering followed by a 1950-1960's Knick.

A local dealer had a couple of high-end (5E?) Flues SBT's that I drooled over every time I went in, but he was quite proud of them. They were pretty things for sure! Based on what I'd heard from others I really wanted a Knick though, and I eventually got a 5E Knick from a member here and love it...

Stan and Phil thank you for those photos, I have owned a SC Parker trap and for some damn reason I have a hard on for one of these Ithaca traps, A question, I understand they did 3 modifications to the Flues What were they? still learning Gary

By far. The 6 and 7E's will suck the air out of your lungs. Here are a few pics of a 34" 7E (2nd Model Flues) that whispered in my ear a few years back.

I believe there were only two models on the Flues SBT, First and Second followed of course in 1922 by the introduction of the Knick. The later model Flues employed a crossbolt lockup which is visible on the top left side of the frame. What's not to like about the "King of the Trap Guns?"

OK, riddle me this: why do trap guns have game birds and bird dogs engraved on them? Shouldn't they have clay targets or little houses with sloped roofs ?

I believe there were six models/grades offered on the SBTs at least through the late 30's??? Victory, 4E, 5E, 6E, 7E and the opulent, Sousa. The 6E had a very limited run, maybe 5 to 6 years, tops.
