Even with good pointers, it was futile to go after singles. Fortunately, the next field always produced another big covey. In those days, the area was very poor, and fences were non existent. The same for plowed ground and livestock. We could walk all day over hundreds of acres without seeing cultivated ground, a fence or a cow. Every barn had deer hanging, regardless of whether it was deer season or not. Quail hunters were just as scarce.

Bill, I’m glad you had days like you describe. So much is gone now.
